About the Role

As a Sr. Software Engineer with Posthaste Labs, you will be responsible for architecting and implementing full-stack applications that power the client's core business operations. You will build modern, responsive web applications using Next.js, develop robust APIs, and deploy scalable infrastructure on AWS. This position will be embedded directly with the client in a leading BioTech firm while having autonomy to determine the technical stack, architecture patterns, and development processes. You will work directly with the client, shaping product requirements, defining technical specifications, and executing on agreed-upon deliverables. You will work within a team of 6 within the overall development of solving end-to-end use-cases. This is an hourly contract position to start. The candidate should be able to consistently provide 30+ hours a week but can set their own schedule and may work up to 50 hours if desired. Candidates must be based in the US but can set their hours for when and where they want to work.

Key Responsibilities

  • Client engagement: Proactively identify technical gaps, issues and product needs while sharing opinions with client. Lead feature discussions and projects with clear communication.
  • Full-stack development: Design and implement responsive, performant web applications using Next.js (App Router), React, and TypeScript with a focus on exceptional user experience.
  • API development: Build robust, type-safe APIs and database interactions using Kysely ORM, ensuring data integrity and optimal query performance.
  • UI/UX implementation: Create polished, accessible user interfaces using Material-UI (MUI) components while maintaining design system consistency and following best practices.
  • Infrastructure & deployment: Design and manage scalable AWS infrastructure including Lambda, ECS, RDS, S3, and CloudFront. Implement CI/CD pipelines for automated testing and deployment.
  • Code quality: Write clean, maintainable, well-tested code with comprehensive unit and integration tests. Conduct thorough code reviews and mentor team members on best practices.
  • Performance optimization: Monitor and optimize application performance, including bundle size, rendering efficiency, database query optimization, and API response times.
  • Security: Implement security best practices including authentication, authorization, data validation, and protection against common vulnerabilities.
  • Technical documentation: Create and maintain clear technical documentation for architecture decisions, API specifications, and deployment processes.

Experience and Qualifications

  • 5+ years of professional software engineering experience
  • 3+ years building production applications with React and Next.js
  • 3+ years working with TypeScript in production environments
  • 3+ years designing and deploying applications on AWS (Lambda, ECS, RDS, S3, CloudFront)
  • 2+ years with SQL and type-safe database libraries (Kysely, Drizzle, or similar)
  • 2+ years building component libraries and design systems (MUI, Chakra UI, or similar)
  • 3+ years in startups or fast-paced environments
  • Proven experience building and deploying scalable full-stack applications
  • Strong understanding of web performance optimization, SEO, and accessibility standards
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure as code (Terraform, CDK, or similar)
  • Highly opinionated on software architecture and able to articulate tradeoffs between different technical approaches
  • Able to take ownership of ambiguous projects and drive them to successful completion
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
